Mark Price, Director of Bands

Mr. Price directs the Pride of McAlester Marching Band, High School Wind Ensemble, Sixth Grade beginning Brass class, and coordinates the 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Bands.  His other responsiblities include brass instrument repair, and webmaster.  He serves as the High School Auditions Manager and OkMEA Regional Chairmen for the Southeast Oklahoma Band Directors Association.  Mr. Price maintains current memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Oklahoma Music Educations Association, & Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.


Mr. Price graduated from Pottsboro High School in Pottsboro, TX in 2002 where he earned membership in the TMEA All-State Jazz Band, ATSSB All-Area Band, and ATSSB All-Region Jazz and Concert Bands on trumpet.  While in High School, he served as lead trumpet for the Greater Texoma Jazz Orchestra.  He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2007 and Master of Education from East Central University in 2009.  As section leader and lead trumpet for the Spirit of Southeastern Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble, he earned membership in Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band for three years.  He also served as President of the Etu Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honor Band Fraternity and MENC Collegiate Chapter.  


Before coming to McAlester in 2010, Mr. Price served as the Director of Bands at Dewar Public Schools for three years.  He and his wife Jamie have been married for 11 years and live in McAlester.  They have two children Casen and Kinsley.

Sean DeNike, Assistant Director of Bands

Dr. DeNike directs the Parker Sixth Grade Band, Puterbaugh String Orchestra, MHS Percussion Ensemble, MHS Marimba Choir, MS & HS Steel Drum Bands and is the 6th-12th Grade Percussion Coordinator.  His other responsibilities include assisting with the Pride of McAlester Marching Band, MHS Wind Ensemble, and Puterbaugh 7th & 8th Grade Bands.

Bobby Kitchen, Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. Kitchen directs the Puterbaugh 8th Grade Band, MHS Jazz Band, and 6th Grade Beginning Woodwind Class. He also co-directs the MHS Symphonic Band and MHS Basketball Pep Band.  His other responsibilities include assisting with the Pride of McAlester Marching Band, Puterbaugh 7th Grade Band and String Orchestra.

Dana Butler, Assistant Director of Bands

Mrs. Butler directs the Puterbaugh 7th Grade Band, MHS Woodwind Choir, and 6th Grade Beginning Woodwind Class. She also co-directs the MHS Symphonic Band and MHS Basketball Pep Band.  Her other responsibilities include assisting with the Pride of McAlester Marching Band, Puterbaugh 8th Grade Band and String Orchestra.


Mrs. Butler is a 2007 alumni of Antlers High School where she graduated as a member of The National Honor Society. As a member of the Bearcat Band, she served two consecutive years as drum-major, clarinet section leader, and first clarinet in the All State Band for three years. 

Mrs. Butler graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2015 where she studied music performance. During her time at SOSU she was a member of the Presidents Leadership Class and made the Dean’s Honor Roll for three consecutive years. As a member of the Southeastern Band, she was first chair clarinet and drum-major her junior year. She joined Kappa Kappa Psi-the National Band Fraternity where she served as President of the Delta class. She participated in several community concerts, Texas /Oklahoma Music Educator Association bands, and served as first chair of the Intercollegent Band in Seattle, WA.

While earning her bachelors degree, She joined the United States Navy where she served as a personnel Specialist for the Regional Fleet Band. She received the rank of Petty Officer Third Class and earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist metal while serving on the USS Hue City- CG 66. 

Upon graduation, Mrs. Butler worked at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, TX. There she served as Assistant Director for their school Orchestra. She continued her work with Antlers Public Schools, where she taught ten years teaching woodwinds and private clarinet lessons.
